Maldives, Jan 7: The Maldives authorities on Sunday suspended three ministers over their derogatory remarks in opposition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Mariyam Shiuna, Malsha Shareef and Mahzoom Majid have been suspended over their remarks in opposition to PM Modi, which triggered an enormous backlash.
Earlier within the day, the Maldives authorities in an announcement had distanced itself from the remarks, calling them ‘private opinions’.
Former presidents together with Mohammad Nasheed and Ibrahim Solih had demanded motion in opposition to the ministers over their remarks in opposition to Prime Minister Modi.
I condemn the usage of hateful language in opposition to #India by Maldivian authorities officers on social media. India has at all times been a great pal to Maldives and we should not permit such callous remarks to negatively impression the age previous friendship between our two nations.
