Srinagar- The water stage within the Jhelum river has hit the bottom on account of a chronic dry spell in Kashmir, officers mentioned right here on Sunday.

“River Jhelum was flowing at -0.75 toes at Sangam (Anantnag district) and -0.86 toes at Asham (Bandipora district) on Sunday morning. That is the bottom water stage within the river,” the officers mentioned.

It had dropped to this stage at Sangam in November 2017, they mentioned.

Kashmir has been going by a chronic dry spell this winter with little or no snowfall and a 79 per cent deficit in rainfall was recorded for December whereas there was no precipitation in most components of the valley within the first fortnight of January.

Gulmarg ski resort, which was once coated by snow at the moment of the season, is dry.

There was no snowfall in most plain areas of Kashmir, whereas the higher reaches of the valley have acquired lesser than ordinary quantity of snow.

As a result of dry climate, numerous bushfires have been reported from the hilly areas throughout the valley.

The Forest Division has issued an advisory to folks residing within the forest areas.
